Braided Rugs

Braided rugs are factory-made or hand-made products. Braided rugs can be made of wool, silk, animal skin and more. Usually these rugs are piled. Braided rugs are intended to cover a floor or to decorate walls.
At first let’s know about what is the difference between braided rugs and gobelins or mats.

Threads of braided rugs’ pile are fastened off with knots. At the same time gobelins have no knots, threads are dragged through the base and these threads are nailed down to each other by using special fork.
Two kinds of surfaces and ornaments are used in braided rugs. Braided rugs are manufactured, using very difficult, accurate technique, with mathematical precision.

On the contrary to braided rugs, gobelins are manufactured quite arbitrary. There are no rows, and pattern lines can be designed in many ways. So you may apply certain freedom and fantasy to gobelins.
Apart from braided rugs and gobelins there are mats.

They differ from braided rugs in the method of threads interweaving (it is very similar to that in tapestry). Also mats are made of sisal (dried fibers of agave), but nevertheless, mats are prototypes of braided rugs.
