Capel Rugs
Capel rugs are factory-made or hand-made products. Capel rugs can be made of wool, silk, animal skin and more. Usually capel rugs are piled. Capel rugs are used to cover a floor or to decorate walls.
At first let’s know about what is the difference between capel rugs and gobelins or mats. Threads of capel rugs’ pile are fastened off with knots.
On the contrary gobelins have no knots, threads are dragged through the base and these threads are nailed down to each other by using special fork.
Two kinds of surfaces and ornaments are used in capel rugs. Capel rugs are manufactured, using very difficult, accurate technique, with mathematical precision.
On the contrary to capel rugs , gobelins are manufactured quite arbitrary. There are no rows in gobelins, and pattern lines can be designed anyhow. So you may apply certain fantasy and freedom to gobelins.
Apart from capel rugs and gobelins there are mats.
They differ from capel rugs in the method of threads interweaving (it is very similar to that in tapestry). Also mats are made of sisal (dried fibers of agave), but nevertheless, mats are prototypes of capel rugs.
