Contemporary Rugs |
Contemporary rugs can be either factory-made or hand-made. They are made of wool, silk, leather, animal skin and more. Usually contemporary rugs are piled. Such rugs are used to cover a floor or to decorate walls.
At first let’s know about what is the difference between contemporary rugs and gobelins or mats.
Threads of contemporary rugs
’ pile are fastened off with knots. On the contrary a gobelin or a tapestry has no knots, threads are dragged through the base and these threads are nailed down to each other by using special fork.
Two kinds of surfaces and ornaments are used in contemporary rugs.
Contemporary rugs
are manufactured, using very difficult, accurate technique, with mathematical precision. Often, computer-aided design (CAD) is used in their manufacturing. On the contrary to contemporary rugs, gobelins are manufactured quite arbitrary. Gobelins have no rows, and pattern lines can be designed anyhow.
So you may apply certain freedom and fantasy to tapestry. Apart from contemporary rugs and gobelins there are mats. They differ from contemporary rugs in the method of threads interweaving (it is very similar to that in tapestry). Also mats are made of sisal (dried fibers of agave), but nevertheless, mats are prototypes of contemporary rugs.
