Making Rugs

Some of the modern rugs inherit traditional patterning and ornamentation, enhanced to the modern standards and preferences. There are practically no limits to the designer's ideas concerning modern rugs. Modern rugs will satisfy any of the most original tastes and choices.

Rugs can be factory-made as well as hand-made. Rugs can be made of wool, silk, leather, animal skin and more. Often rugs are made with pile. Usually rugs are used to cover a floor or to decorate walls.
At first let’s know about what is the difference between rugs and gobelins or mats. While making rugs, threads of pile are fastened off with knots.

At the same time a gobelin or a tapestry has no knots. While making rugs, threads are dragged through the base and these threads are nailed down to each other by using special fork.
While making rugs, there are two kinds of surfaces and ornaments.

Rugs are manufactured, using very difficult, accurate technique, with mathematical precision. On the contrary, gobelins are weaved arbitrary. There are no rows, and pattern lines may be designed anyhow. So you can apply certain freedom and fantasy to tapestry. Also mats are made of sisal (dried fibers of agave plant).

But nevertheless, mats are prototypes of modern rugs.
