Penny Rugs

Penny rugs bear the name of the type of wool weaving. Dating back to the early mid 19th century, penny rugs earned their name from the large coins, or pennies, which were used as templates to cut out the round forms applied to various backings, often with buttonhole stitch. Another name for these rugs was "Pen Wiper Rug.

" Many times you will find circles of graduated sizes applied one on top of another in pairs or threes on penny rugs . Along with circles, many naturalistic figures were used in penny rugs, including simple flowers, fruits and animals. Often, enhancing embroidery was added. The backings of penny rugs included woolen fabric and coarsely woven cotton.

Although these works of domestic art were called rugs, they were most often used as throws rather than floor rugs. Modern penny rugs require no installation, they are easily removable. Also they can be weaved taking into account your requirements.

Penny rugs can have any shape and size to fit all your needs. Penny rugs are not only versatile, but also they are extremely economical.
