Sheep Skin Rugs |
There are three basic materials that are used in rugs weaving – sheep skin, natural silk and cotton. The wool of goats and camels can be found in nomads’ rugs. In most of hand-made sheep skin rugs, the knots and the pile are also made of sheep wool. Softness, durability and quite a low cost, in comparison to silk – all these distinguish sheep wool from other fabrics.
Besides it is very comfortable to work with. It makes sheep wool a unique material to weave sheep skin rugs from. It is possible to add some goat or camel wool to make sheep skin rug shine more intensively. But you shouldn’t abuse, because it is difficult to paint such sheep skin rugs after that.
As a rule, the sheep, which graze high in the mountains, have the wool of the highest quality. The wool from Iran and the Caucasian Mountains is rated highly. Excellent sheep skin rugs can be purchased in China, Australia and New Zealand.
